In 2000 she worked with the Annenburg Grant to
improve the writing skills of her students. As a result, her students
scored one to two grades higher on the FCAT writing examination.
Mrs. Fox-Albury is a strong advocate in requiring the arts in the total
school curriculum. She is a member of many Arts Advocacy groups involved
in Arts Education and Assessment. She strongly believes in academics as
the staple of a child’s education but believes that the Arts play
an integral role in education as well. “Research consistently shows
the positive effects arts education plays in academic performance. Every
child benefits by being involved in the arts. One of the most rewarding
experiences in teaching the arts has been the ability to reach children
in a different way and provide them with the positive self-image that
lay the ground work for the focus and discipline necessary to achieve
in life. To know that you have had a positive impact on child’s
life and changed their path is why I teach.. I love what I do, and believe
that this feeling filters through to the students”.
Presently many of Mrs. Fox-Albury’s former students are now dance
teachers with Miami-Dade Public Schools.
Mrs. Fox-Albury has been recognized for her continued leadership in the
Arts Education. She was honored in Orlando receiving the Arts Leadership
Award in 1999. She has been nominated numerous times by her colleagues
for “Teacher of the Year” and was awarded the “Teacher
of the Year” in 1998 by the Florida Alliance for Health, Physical
Education, Recreation and Dance.
Mrs. Fox-Albury’s has served as president for the Dade Association
of Dance Educators. Chairman for the Teacher of the Year, Region V Committee
and a member of the Southern District Association. Presently she is writing
lesson plan modules in dance for the new Performing Arts Center in Miami.
